>> announcer: nbc 10 breaking news. >> several breaking stories at this hour. we begin with a health alert in mercer county. tonight, health officials have confirmed two more people have tested positive for hepatitis a. >> a month ago, a worker at a popular restaurant contracted the virus. we told you in early december when a food handler in hamilton township tested positive for the virus. tonight, health officials reveal two other people have also tested positive for the disease which affects the liver. both recently ate at rosa's. another hamilton business called the hairport salon. doctors have treated employees who are now recovering at home.
the second case involved a fitness instructor who workings at the hamilton area ymca. tonight, there was a warning about the danger. and that same fitness instructor works at the new jersey athletic club in lawrenceville. the fitness instructor is now recovering at home. any one of these three locations between december 5th through the 29th is at risk for hepatitis a. >> so if you come in contact, here's what you should know. health officials say anyone exposed should get vaccinates as soon as possible.q+ there was a big vaccination clinic held last month after the initial case was discovered. you can call the hamilton township department of health. theeringly signs include mild fever, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. you can also experience fatigue as well as pain in the upper right side of the abdomen. these symptoms usually appear 2-6 weeks after being exposed. you can read more about
hepatitis a and the cases in mercrer county by heading to nbc 10 at no time enbc nbc10.com. >> breaking news an arrest just minutes ago. tonight, police tell us the suspect, 32-year-old steven woodson will be charged with several charges, including atechted murder. we're told he's visiting family in philadelphia but lives in pittsburgh. here's a look at where the garage is located. it is along the 1700 block of callowhill street. the parking garage is right near the community college of philadelphia. nbc 10's keith jones reports. >> reporter: it took philadelphia police less than eight hours for a person of interest to be interviewed here at the special victims unit. while he's here a victim spent her new year's day at a local hospital. a brazen attack in broad day light.
detectives tell us this is where the 33-year-old woman was raped. they dusted for fingerprints for hours. police were called to the second floor of the parking garage right across in e from the community college of philadelphia around 11:00 a.m. thousands of people headed to the event in new year's day. >> lived here six years and yes, i walk in and out of this garage all of the time. >> it's scary because i work here. i'm about to get a vehicle soon and this will be -- i'm a little nervous to be parking over there. >> doctors at hahneman university say the 33-year-old woman is in stable condition. >> i'm very surprised. i lived here three and a half years, i've never had an issue. >> the particular parking garage in spring garden is supposed to be staffed 24 hours a day. in the meantime, i was told here by a detective at s.v.u. that they're continuing to
investigate this case. in the juniata section of philadelphia, nbc 10 news. >> former gov northerly mariocuom died tonight. the 82-year-old served three terms as new york's governor from 1983 to 1994. doctors have been treating cuomo for a heart condition but don't know the exact cause of his death at this hour. chris christie released this statement tonight. president obama also released this statement tonight. >> 2015 brought much colder weather. >> you definitely needed your heavy coat out there tonight. >> you had to have it. let's get the very latest on
what we'll wake up to first e from first alert meteorologist sheena parveen. >> areas through the lehigh valley in the mid 20s. 33 philadelphia, 31 wilmington. closer to the shore, temperatures here just about mid to upper 30s. we'll be colder as we e you start off your morning to believe the e tomorrow. we'll still have a bit of a breeze, but just not as windy today. so as your start off your morning, 32 degrees at 8 cloek. by noon tomorrow, temperatures will be near 40 degrees. now, aside from that locally we're dry. but we are watching this big area of rain in the south. this will be moving up for part of your weekend. i'll show you the timing on that coming up. >> a philadelphia tradition, ringing in the new year with the mummer's parade. and the new year brought a new route. that didn't stop thousands from braving the cold. nbc 10 reports tonight from
south philadelphia where the party isn't over yet. >> take a look behind me here. everyone comes down to 2 street after the parade because it's where the real partying begins. >> it's almost like mardis gras in south philly. >> it's such a unique philly tradition. >> the mummer's parade kicked off early this morning. various clubs strutting their stuff downtown. >> it's so fun. everyone seems to be enjoying themselves, having a good time. >> thousands of people lined the newly-shortened parade route to see the comics and fancies march. >> i think they were a little by angry about not maerjing north. but they're happy to do it every single year. i feel like it's just fantastic. they look forward to this day, for sure. >> one, two, three, philly.

center city to watch the parade. instead, they protested at broad and oregon over the decision to change the route. this is the first year they strutted from city haul efrom e city hall to washington avenue. download the new nbc 10 news app. it's free and you can find it in the app store. remembering the lives of a 10-year-old boy who wanted to be a police officer. tonight, a community mourned his death days after a gloucester plif police officer's car hit that boy on the way to a call. nbc 10's george spencer joins us live. >> reporter: it really was a painful irony. that little boy who wanted to be a police officer killed by a police cruiser. and, tonight, several members from this department showed their support to the victim's family and attended matthew's vigil.
one by one group by group, mourners released flaming lanterns into the dark night of this new year. each light, a symbol of the greatness matthew mcclusky brought in his short life. they lost matthew on sunday night as he walked to a sleepover, a franklin township police cruiser hit him on the way to a call. >> always remember he's with you in your heart. >> reporter: in this crowd of hundreds, the focus was on the 10-year-old victim even as that crash investigation continues and questions linger. >> i don't think we'll ever get the answers that we're looking for. and that's just because there's always going to be questions. and peace is what everybody wants. >> reporter: and peace is what they got tonight on this ball field where matthew played little league. his coach and friends recalled the qualities of a true winner. >> matthew's infectious smile,
his sportsmanship his determination and commitment. >> he was fast and strong. >> reporter: he was one of the good players huh? >> yeah. >> reporter: the boy's family embraced the tremendous out pouring from neighbors and friends. >> my sister is so grateful. >> reporter: a beautiful thing, indeed. family members tell me that matthew's mother says the community support has, "restored her faith in humanity." live tonight in franklin town shim, george spencer, nbc 10 news. >> tonight, it's still unclear what caused this devastation. a section of an old south jersey warehouse collapsed after a fire this morning. burlington county fire fighter took this video of the flames. this is the former warehouse for aerosafety device. investigators say leftover oil
and wood inside the building helped fuel the flames. >> the death of a woman found this morning in a bucks county home is now considered suspicious. the 22-year-old was shot on whittier avenue in ben salem. a man system e inside the home at the time of the shooting is cooperating with investigatorings. >> next at 11:00, calls for calm. the message one mayor wants out there following a deadly shooting. >> a popular restaurant is the latest company dealing with a possible data breech. the information customers should know. >> and we're tracking some cold tempature to end out the week. but rain for part of your weekend. i'll show you the timing of that. who could expect a little wintry mix. that's all coming up next. >> announcer: this is nbc 10e news.
in bridgeton. reed was a passenger in the car when police pulled it over tuesday night. investigators still haven't said what led to the shooting witnesses told nbc 10 that reed had his hands up. mayor albert kelly wants the community to let the justice system do its job. >> i, as mayor, will lead in the charge of transparency so they can see everything that happened. >> police say they did find a gun at the scene. both officers involved in the shooting are on leave during the investigation. tonight, two suspects are in custody in connection with two police officers shot in west virginia. the officers were shot this afternoon as they tried to stop a vehicle with stolen license plates in green briar county. both officers are expected to be okay. one just graduated from the police academy two weeks ago. >> jury selection begins monday in trial of boston marathon
bombing suspect. but lawyers on both sides continue to argue over where the trial should take place. tonight, prosecutors urged a federal judge not to move or delay the trial. it comes a day after zarnav's lawyers asked to move the trial. the defense argues it's impossible to find an impartial jury in boston. he could face the death penalty. the judge should make a decision tomorrow. >> chick-fil-a is warning customers about a possible data breech. the restaurant received reports of potential unusual activity involving cards. they haven't confirmed if an actual brief occurred. but they're offering free credit monitoring if their information was exposed. >> new at 11:00 do you know where your car is tonight? new year's day is the top holiday for car thefts. the national insurance crime bureau checked out the numbers.
in 2013 there were more than 2100 car thefts on new year's day. that way out distances, halloween, memorial day and labor day. used honda accords and civics rank first and second for thieves. a florida driver's new year got off to a really bad start after he crashed his car in his house. police say the car hit the outside corner of the house, spun into the garage and skaugt e caught fire. may neighbors say the driver fell asleep at the wheel. >> pope francis made his new year's wish today. no more wars. [ speaking foreign language ] ? >> the pope spoke to tens of thousands in st. peter's square this morning. pope francis said his wish is there will never be more wars. during his speech, he said peace is always possible. we must search for it. >> atlantic city is hoping to
rebound in 2015. the resort town had a rough year. four casinos closed and the taj mahal is still in trouble but the casino promised to stay open as bankruptcy proceedings continue. the mayor believes the new year will bring new jobs for those out of work. stockton college will open igts e its frank at the casino with a restaurant and boutique shops this spring. >> we're waiting for the state and the assembly and the governor. a whole lot of bills are coming in january, all of them to help stabilize the taxes that both casinos and non-casinos pay. >> the fate of the former revel casino is still uncertain tonight after that sale fell apart. >> these people took the polar bear plunge. they ran into the ocean off of atlantic city. it's the 24th year for the plunge. it raises money for the multiple
sclerosis association of america. >> announcer: now, your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist sheena parveen. >> and they picked a really cold day for a polar bear plunge. at least we stay dry as we go into friday. that will change come this weekend. we'll have rain moving in some parts of the area will see a sleet, wintry mix. i'll show you who in just a minute. colder as we go into next week. parts of next week will be even colder than today. i'll show you that in the 7-day forecast in just a minute. 26 degrees in allentown, 28 in reading. 33 in philadelphia. it is getting wiet e ingting quite a bit colder out tonight. 41 in stone harbor. either way, those numbers will keep dropping down as we go over night tonight. so by the early morning hours, this is how cold it will be. 21 through the morning low, allentown, 22 quakertown, reading, 22. 26 for trenton mt. holly, 25
doylestown. closer to the shore, temperatures just below freezing. a little parteder inland coming from 24-2 e7 degrees. morning low temperatures should be in gist about the upper 20s. so it's going to be another cold start to your cay. at least we do stay dry. we'll have a little more in the way of cloud cover tomorrow. but the clouds tomorrow won't be bringing in the rain. you see it moving into the soit eastern part of the country. this is the rain we have in store for the weekend. it will e it really won't be here until part of saturday. as we go into friday, we do stay nice and dry. it's still going to be a cold day through the afternoon, no rain around, not until saturday. so saturday mourning, we will be staying mostly dry. but there you see the clouds increasing. rain just to our south and everyone a bit of a mix up to our west. the rain moves up through most of the area and really, it
only looks like the lehigh valley and the poconos could be a bit of a wintry mix. as we go later into saturday night and maybe even a wintry snow mix. either way, it gets warmer as we go into sunday. it starts with saturday night so that all transitions over to rain. and, by sunday we'll just be dealing with rain around the area. so temperatures will be warming up for the second half of your weekend. mostly clear and cold tonight, 28 for the low in philadelphia 21 degrees, areas north and west. tomorrow still another cold into your week. but it's going to be dry. 41-44 degrees, again, a little more in the way of cloud cover. and then saturday, that really doesn't mooifve in to the afternoon hours and a mix across most of the lehigh valley and the poconos. but that transition is over. take a look at sunday 63 degrees, but that's going to come with rain not sunshine. and then we really drop down as we go into next week.

the eagles got the attention of everyone yesterday. tom gamble was else korted from the complex. they have seemed to form a tight bond while working together the past few years formlating the roster with gm owner. there was a power struggle involved on the surface. it appears that chip kelly lost his in relationship with roseman. >> you have to be able to work together in this business. chip talks about it with his own team. you have to be on the same page. you have to be aligned in your thinking. and if you don't have that then those divisions will only become schisms. and they'll get wider. and i don't know that it's to that point right now. you have got to marry forces and you've got to be aligned right there for it to work long term. >> oregon and florida state in the first college football playoff game at the rose bowl.
winner and dancing to the national championship. the ducks take over the second. mariota is putting the ducks up 12 points. late third quarter, maybe the play of the game. jamus winston can't find anyone open. and then this ensues. losing the football oregon recovers it and takes it all the way back. the ducks rolled. they will take on the winner of alabama and ohio state in the national championship game. the sixers will return home this coming monday in a game many fans circled on their calendar with the return of lebron james and the cleveland cavaliers. however, lebron has already crossed it off of his schedule. a combination of knee and back strains will sideline james for a few weeks. this will be the cavalier's only trip to philadelphia wu e but a relief for the sixer's team. new year's day tradition.
